Cascading effects of cyber-attacks on interconnected critical infrastructure

چکیده

Abstract Modern critical infrastructure, such as a water treatment plant, distribution system, and power grid, are representative of Cyber Physical Systems (CPSs) in which the physical processes monitored controlled real time. One source complexity systems is due to intra-system interactions inter-dependencies. Consequently, these potential target for attackers. When one or more infrastructure attacked, connected may also be affected cascading effects. In this paper, we report study investigate effects cyber-attacks on two interdependent namely, Secure plant (SWaT) Water Distribution System (WADI).

Visualizing Cascading Failures in Critical Cyber Infrastructures

This paper explores the relationship between physical and cyber infrastructures, focusing on how threats and disruptions in physical infrastructures can cascade into failures in the cyber infrastructure. It also examines the challenges involved in organizing and managing massive amounts of critical infrastructure data that are geographically and logically disparate. To address these challenges,...

Cyber Stealth Attacks in Critical Information Infrastructures

Current Critical Infrastructures (CIs) are complex interconnected industrial systems that, in recent years, have incorporated information and communications technologies such as connection to the Internet and commercial off-the-shelf components. This makes them easier to operate and maintain, but exposes them to the threats and attacks that inundate conventional networks and systems. This paper...

Critical infrastructure preparedness: cascading of disruptions considering vulnerability and dependency

Critical Infrastructures’ disruptions may result in crises of unacceptable outcomes in modern societies. Thus, it is important to develop models that allow describing CIs’ disruptions and their propagation characteristics. CI disruptions depend on both the type of the threat and on the nature of the CIs’ mutual dependencies. A model describing the cascade of disruptions should, then, be able to...

Cascading Effects of Common-Cause F on ailures Critical Infrastructures

One of the most challenging problems in Critical Infrastructure Protection is the assessment and mitigation of cascading failures across infrastructures. In previous research we have proposed a method for assessing the cumulative security risk of cascading threats due to multi-order dependencies between infrastructures. However, recent empirical studies indicate that common mode failures may re...
